South Dakota's Talibanism
In addition to preventing the death of a woman, an abortion may be obtained in cases of rape or incest, but the victim must report the rape to the police within 50 days, the physician must obtain a copy of the report record, and the victim must provide either the name and last known address or a description of the alleged rapist to law enforcement. Furthermore, the physician would be required to take blood samples from the woman and the fetus to be submitted to law enforcement.

What can one say... Obtuseness can be found worldwide if one cares to look.
At the very least South Dakota's victims can file a real complaint with the police dept., and then have the complaint taken to actual court, all of which is a lot more than can be said about Afghani women, Saudi women, Jordanian women, Egyptian women, etc...etc...etc...

Northern Shewolf, it just saddens me to see that the standards are getting lower when it comes to women's rights. And for what? Some religious nut cases who are allegedly preserving their so-called purity and morals while destroying a woman's life in the process (by having an unwanted child out of incest for example). It is beyond disgusting.

Oh Aya! I totally agree with you: women's lives are very cheap in the majority in this world. I am accutely aware of the fact that the accident of birth made me the beneficiary of one of the wealthiest and most liberal nations of the world.
I so deplore the horrible reality that in the Gulf, generations of intelligent, inquisitive and talented women are denied their place and say in their own society. An insane waste of human potential and resources that is mind boggling!
Even in my world, women's full rights were granted and entrenched in the constitutions of westren nations in the 20th century: not so long ago.
Change takes the unwavering dedication of a chosen few of the disenfranchised, and the willingness to sacrifice everything to its acheivement. To inspire and build networks of support for the cause. So long as the women of the Islamic world are silent, acquiescent, and resigned to live like caged birds without true selfhood, nothing will ever move.
Thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity of spirit.

I can't wrap my brain around South Dakota's new abortion policies. I do not put blame on men for the lack of empathy and understanding concerning women's reproductive rights because what I deem as wrong is not wrong to everyone- however, I am just so incredulous that lawmakers (mostly men) can get away with forbidding such a personal and emotional decision. Especially when a crime against a woman's body and woman's self worth is committed!

Why should a baby die if his/her father is a criminal (rapist)? I am absolutely against all violence, including raping, but to kill an innocent person is wrong as well - especially when s/he can't make any resistance. A victim of a rapist needs support and therapy, not another traumatic experience as abortion always is.
Many people don't know that there are crisis centers for pregnant woman in the U.S. So see this:

I'd say these women really can get help and the system is far from anything Talibanism.
I know people whose mothers were raped and became pregnant. These people are so happy they were born. In my country there are tens of thousands couples waiting to have a child adopted and they'd gladly adopt a baby in spite of his/hers origin.
And anyways, no one of us can choose our parents. Every human being - even very small or very old - must have the right to live. We always need help - especially when we're weak as a non-born baby or an elderly sick person.
But if you still think it's okay to kill babies, check this: http://www.abortionno.org/

It is okay to destroy a woman's live to honour the god almighty. This really sounds like a undeveloped humanrights country like Afganistan under the Taliban. I am happy to life in Europe again. But there is always hope, a country can change and starting to take human rights more seriously. Go for it USA start to think, please.

Now the US Supreme Court has upheld a ban on what they call "partial-birth abortion," which is a controversial term in itself. This ban takes effect even if a woman's life in danger. Ridiculous.
