7 Things about Me

  • 1- I am from Hijaz, Saudi Arabia. 2- I am currently studying in the US & fully legal. 3- Since I am an alien (according to the law), I am allowed to make grammatical mistakes and endless run-ons. 4- I do pick sides and call them "educated opinions." (I am pro-choice). 5- I believe that the number one worst export of America is "McDonalds", best export, on the other hand, is "Individualism". 6- I am becoming more cynical and less optimistic by the day (Need a cure). 7- I can’t tolerate irrelevance.

Freedom Go to Hell!

The following picture, taken on a Friday's London protest, deserves “The Most Disconcerting and Troubling Picture Award” since the whole cartoon debacle has started. I don’t know if there is anything else out there that can top this one!

Undoubtedly, freedom is becoming the most abused term in the world today! In its name, governments, institutions and individuals around the world claim superiority and justify inhumane and appalling actions. The Friday protests at the Danish embassy in London are one of those incidents where freedom has been trashed and slaughtered!

A member of the At-Tawheed network, who participated in the demonstrations, said: “Muslims need to make their opinions known and not keep silent about the matter.” Well, my question is: Which Muslims are you talking about? What makes you think that you and your group represent Muslims? I am wondering, how many Muslims actually agree to the following hateful and contradicting slogans hosted by this protest:

“Exterminate those who slander Islam”

“Kill those who insult Islam”

“Butcher those who insult the prophet”

“Behead those who say that Islam is violent”

Is it such a difficult thing to comprehend that opinions such as these further implicate Muslims and justify more hatred towards them? Although some moderate Muslim leaders and organizations condemned such slogans, the daily violent protests are not giving any chance for moderate voices to be hearted or covered by any news. If freedom should go to hell, then how about banning such groups from expressing hate filled opinions?

The leading concern about this issue is no longer about whether to publish the cartoons or not but rather about clarifying the reasons behind hatred and rage between Muslims and non-Muslims. Furthermore, I think it is about self-loathing and whether it can be exterminated from the Muslim psyche. How can we become humans again and respect and understand each other? How can we salvage freedom?

(As an alien, I always upheld freedom as the most essential human achievement [Ever]. This assault on freedom is very upsetting)
